Gamma Alpha Lambda
Gamma Alpha Lambda (GAL) is a national sisterhood of Christian women. It currently has chapters at four colleges in Missouri. I have been a member of the Alpha chapter at Missouri State University since Fall 2009. Since joining, I have taken on several leadership positions in the organization.
Vice President of Rush
I have been GAL's vice president of rush since September 2011. This is a position on the Executive Council, which is the primary leadership board in the chapter. As V.P. of rush, I planned, coordinated, and directed all activities pertaining to the incorporation of new members. This involved implementing several events: informational workshops, social and service events, interviews, inductions, and weekend retreats. Throughout the course of the rush process, I was responsible for teaching the incoming members about GAL and incorporating them into the greater sisterhood.
As V.P. of rush, I learned gained experience in several important organizational skills: event planning, public speaking, committee coordination, and interpersonal communication. As a member of the Executive Council, I also learned to work effectively under pressure, cooperate with women from different backgrounds, and handle conflict among leaders.
During my time in this position, I put together several schedules or programs for the events that I planned. I have linked the PDF files of a few of them in the list below:
Missions Chair
I took on the role of Missions chair from January until May 2011. In this position, I planned events and activities that helped GAL reach out to the Missouri State University campus and develop stronger evangelism skills. As part of this, I also led a small group that studied various Scriptures related to evangelism along with the book The One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven.
Sisterhood Chair
I was the sisterhood chair of GAL from March 2010 until September 2010. In this position, I planned events that encouraged unity and encouragement among members. The purpose of the chair is to promote close sisterhood and allow girls to form deep friendships that last far beyond the college years. Some events that I helped plan were a slumber party, a cereal party, and accountability partner bonding events.
